Twenty Years of Yo-Yo Diets
I’m a 42 year old mom of four. My weight has been up and down for the past 20 years. I have tried every diet on the planet. I would lose weight for a while, but then gain it back, plus a few more pounds. At my heaviest weight I was 208 pounds, which is very heavy for my short 5’2” body.
I was miserable. It hurt to walk, I had zero energy, I was depressed – some days I didn’t even want to get out of bed, but as a working mom of four children, that was not an option.
A Downward Slope
Over the past couple of years I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, Psoriatic Arthritis, Psoriasis and a fatty liver. I knew the path I was heading down was a very slippery downward slope and my medical issues were only going to increase with the more weight I gained – more pain, more problems, more diagnosis and more medications. This was not the life I wanted. I knew that I was too young for this and I wanted to just feel good and be able to enjoy my family. I just needed to find a way to make that happen. I needed a weight loss program where I wouldn’t be starving or feel deprived. Also, it had to be doable and sustainable.
A friend introduced me to keto. I followed her on social media and watched her journey for months. I watched her losing more and more weight. I saw photos of all the delicious foods she was eating. I didn’t understand how this was possible, but clearly it was real; I was seeing it with my own two eyes.
Finally I messaged her to ask her what I needed to do to get started. She referred me to a couple of Facebook groups and recommended a couple of books. I decided to stop just sitting around watching her success and to start this journey for myself.
My New Lifestyle
When I started I was scared to death and I seriously doubted that I would have the ability to give up carbs and sugars, since those had been the main staples of my diet for as long as I could remember. Not to mention I’m a very picky eater, so trying to get myself to eat healthier foods was not going to be easy.
I started the keto way of eating on July 14, 2017. I hired Nissa to be my personal coach to help me get started and to make sure that I was doing everything right. She suggested that I read the “Kick Your Fat In The Nuts” book, take the digestion course & fat loss course.
I followed all of this advice. The courses taught me SO MUCH and started me out on the right track, leading to my ultimate success.
Since Then:
- I have gone from weighing 208 pounds down to 150 pounds
- I have gone from wearing a size 16 jeans and 2XL tops to wearing a size 6 jeans and medium tops
- My Triglycerides have gone from 256 down to 88 and my HDL has gone from 42 up to 56
- My A1C went from 7.7 down to 5.1. I no longer require diabetes medications. AMAZING – I reversed my Type II diabetes!
- My fatty liver is gone
- My BMI has gone from 38 down to 26
- My C-Reactive Protein (inflammation levels) have gone from 18.9 down to 5.3 & I’m off my Humira bi-weekly injections that I was taking for my arthritis
- I no longer take Prilosec for frequent heartburn
Keto Saved My Life
Keto has truly changed my life. Keto SAVED my life! I can now easily and happily get out of bed every morning. I get to run around and play with my kids. I can eat delicious, fat filled, healthy foods that I enjoy. I’m not hungry. I don’t have cravings. I’m happy. I look and feel great!
After seeing my success, my husband joined me in the keto lifestyle and he is now down 34 pounds! He also feels better than he has in 20 years. He thanks me everyday for leading us both to living a healthier, happier life.
Many of our friends have joined us as well. They all are having great success losing the weight, while getting healthier. Seeing everyone’s success brings me so much joy. Knowing that I had a part in them making the decision to start keto by sharing my successes with them is an incredible feeling that I can’t even describe! My hope is to continue to inspire others by sharing my journey.
