Keto fat bombs pull double duty by busting through sugar cravings, and they’re a great way to burn more fat on a keto diet.
What better fix for your sweet tooth than creamy almond butter combined with melted chocolate. Get the good fats you need to thrive on a ketogenic diet with this chocolate almond butter fat bomb recipe.
When everyone else on the keto block won’t shut up about net carbs, why’s this girl who lost 100 pounds with a low carb lifestyle telling you to add more keto bombs?
First thing, keto is a high fat, low-carb diet. While the carb count does matter when it comes to weight loss, you’ll struggle to lose weight if your fat macros aren’t also in check.
Starvation mode is a real thing. Too many women eat far too little to lose weight when they skip out on the high quality fats your body needs. If you simply follow the low carb way where you only focus on cutting carbs, this method eventually leads to a weight loss stall for most keto dieters.
Why not conquer sweet cravings and burn more fat with a delicious chocolate combo like almond butter fat bombs instead?
Let’s chit chat about how to make these delicious keto treats.
First things: measure out the heavy cream and set aside. It’s important the cream comes to room temperature to avoid curdling in the recipe. Then line a mini muffin pan with mini muffin liners. Don’t skip this step or clean up won’t be your friend. I mean, unless you enjoy licking that delicious leftover dark chocolate out of every single mini muffin slot.
Next, let’s get to the basic ingredients of this easy fat bomb recipe. This is one of my favorite combination of healthy fats since coconut oil is great at burning fat and almond butter is such a yummy nut butter to add sweetness to keto recipes.
Melt the almond butter, coconut oil and chocolate together over medium-low heat. Stir the chocolate almond butter mixture together while melting with a whisk.
Once melted and combined well, set aside to cool. Then whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla extract.
Here’s a word of caution. You don’t want to add the vanilla extract to melted chocolate that hasn’t had a chance to cool. While the sizzle is fun to hear, burnt chocolate fat bombs are not a good thing.
Once well combined, add the chocolate almond butter mixture to the lined mini muffin tins in one tablespoon increments. Place in the freezer until firm, which is around 20-30 minutes. Store in the freezer or fridge in a Ziploc bag or another airtight container.
Perhaps you made it to the end of this recipe and you’re wondering where’s the drops of liquid stevia? What about the monk fruit sweetener? How the heck can we have a keto dessert recipe without any low carb sweetener added?
Thankfully these fat bombs have a delicious flavor all on their own without any added sweeteners. They’re the perfect snack to start weaning off sweeteners if this is a goal you have in mind.
While I previously used all of the artificial sweeteners a keto diet has to offer, I gave up added sweeteners several years ago and never looked back. Even though I made it to my goal weight with the inclusion of keto friendly sweeteners, I found staying at my goal was more difficult.
Too many sweeteners can lead to more cravings and hunger on a keto diet. This includes the sweeteners you add, as well as foods labeled as keto friendly like chocolate chips loaded with sugar alcohols.
This is the precise reason I switched my keto fat bomb recipes from using cocoa powder to 85% or higher dark chocolate. Yes, there is a little bit of real sugar in the dark chocolate. Some keto advocates will scream at you that dark chocolate isn’t keto for this precise reason.
I’d personally rather use a touch of natural sugar in my keto recipes since our bodies understand how to digest the real thing. Who knows what it does with those artificial sweeteners made from chemicals in a lab? 🤔
Oh wait, I know!
When you eat things your body doesn’t understand how to digest, they get stored in fat cells. Your body will store them there until the coast is clear. If you’re constantly eating all of the artificially sweetened keto treats, the coast is never clear.
Now I’m not saying you should just go cold turkey when it comes to removing keto approved sweeteners from your plan. Next time you make a fat bomb recipe, use less sweetener than you used the last time you made that recipe. Continue to cut back on your next batch until your taste buds change and you don’t really need extra sweeteners at all.
