Do you miss pasta ever since starting a low carb diet? Most traditional sauces and noodles made primarily from carbs are a no-go on keto.

5 tips on losing 100 pounds with keto guide

Why Make Your Own Keto Alfredo Sauce?

You may ask why bother making a homemade sauce when you can pick up a jar of Ragu Alfredo sauce from the store. After all, it’s low in carbs and takes less time to heat up than starting from scratch.

No matter how many net carbs are displayed on the jar, it’s still better to make homemade keto Alfredo sauce. It’s an easy recipe that you can guarantee contains all keto-friendly ingredients.

The jar sauce likely contains soybean oil, modified corn starch, and other inflammatory ingredients. While you may consume less carbs overall, eating highly processed vegetable oils and modified anything isn’t the best way to get lasting results on keto.

Also, this easy keto Alfredo sauce recipe only uses a few basic ingredients to make up this delicious sauce. Plus, the real deal always tastes better than store bought when it comes to a good Alfredo sauce.

Chicken Bacon Alfredo Ingredients

Some of my favorite meats to combine in keto recipes are chicken and bacon. For this recipe, I use chicken breast – but boneless chicken thighs work too. While I prefer a thick cut bacon, use whichever keto options work best for you. You’ll need salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to season the chicken.

When it comes to the meat, aim for organic whenever possible since conventional meats contain more toxins. If you don’t have a selection of organic meats locally, you can have high quality, grass-fed meats delivered straight to your door via Butcher Box.

I make a simple sauce for this keto chicken Alfredo recipe. The only ingredients I use are heavy cream, butter, and minced garlic.

Most traditional Alfredo sauce recipes include parmesan cheese, while some include cream cheese to make a thicker sauce. While these additions make for a creamy sauce, not everyone does well with a lot of dairy on keto. Unfortunately I’m included in that group, so I leave these out of my low carb Alfredo sauce recipe.

At this point, I know exactly what you’re thinking. Um, excuse me keto girl – aren’t heavy whipping cream and butter both from the dairy section? You are correct.

The great thing is while some people are sensitive to certain dairy products like different varieties of cheese, some can still get away with heavy cream and butter. Of course if you’re sensitive to all dairy, keto fettuccine Alfredo probably isn’t a good option for you.

How to Make Chicken Bacon Alfredo

Meal Prep

Keto meals turn into simple recipes when you take time to meal prep. Since I use bacon in several recipes throughout the week, I usually cook a large batch of bacon on the weekends and store it in an airtight container in the fridge. This way, it’s easy to pull a few pieces out and crumble them over delicious meals like this.

The same thing goes for veggies, like green onions. I take an hour on the weekends to chop up the vegetables I know I’ll use throughout the week. I store them in green containers to keep them fresh. If you have even more time, you can chop up extra and store many vegetables in the freezer until you’re ready to use them.

If you haven’t taken time to meal prep, you’ll need to cook and chop while preparing the rest of the meal.

The Chicken

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Then spray a casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Remember that chat we had earlier about avoiding highly processed vegetable oils? That still applies here, so go with a high heat  coconut oil spray.

Season both sides of the chicken to taste with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Then bake in the oven until the chicken is thoroughly cooked. You’ll know it’s ready when the juices run clear and it’s white in the middle.

You could also use a meat thermometer to test. Chicken is ready at 165 degrees F. Depending on how thin the chicken you use is, it should take 25 – 35 minutes to cook.

This also makes a delicious air fryer chicken breast keto recipe if you prefer this cooking method instead. That’s usually the option I choose with this recipe, but I understand not everyone loves keto air fryer recipes.

Keto Alfredo Sauce

While the chicken bakes, melt the butter over medium heat in a medium saucepan. Add minced garlic to the pan and cook until the garlic is lightly browned. Then, begin to add the heavy cream to the saucepan.

Add the cream to the pan in 1/2 cup increments. Stir the sauce frequently with a whisk. As the sauce thickens, continue to add the cream into the saucepan half a cup at a time. Stir frequently as the sauce thickens. The full recipe typically takes 20 minutes.

If the sauce isn’t thick enough for you, that’s when adding a half cup of grated parmesan cheese can be helpful. You’ll want to reduce to low heat and stir in the parmesan cheese. Stir frequently until the cheese melts.

Put The Chicken Bacon Alfredo Together

Once the chicken is cooked thoroughly, and the sauce has time to thicken, plate the chicken. Pour a generous amount of Alfredo sauce on top. Garnish with real bacon bits and diced green onions.

While I prefer to eat this meal as is, if you miss noodles then spaghetti squash makes a great low carb pasta substitute. A lot of keto dieters also substitute shirataki noodles in place of pasta. I haven’t tried this option yet – so if you try it, comment below to let me know how they are with this low carb recipe.

This would also taste great over a bed of fresh broccoli, or even low carb noodles made from your favorite low carb vegetables, like zucchini noodles.

The Chicken Bacon Alfredo Wrap Up

This was my favorite meal when I began keto. Good thing since my whole family loves this easy keto dish. It will be a great addition to your keto meal plan too!

If you’re looking for other Italian inspired dishes, I have some great sauces I use as complete meals.

A keto sauce that I’ve eaten since the beginning of my journey is sweet & spicy spaghetti sauce. It’s hearty enough to skip over noodles entirely! Also, I used the same main ingredients, but added heavy cream, to make this creamy spicy spaghetti sauce.
