Getting enough fat on a ketogenic diet is essential when it comes to getting into ketosis. This is especially true when it comes to a keto diet for beginners. Since not just any fat will do, a great way to get more fat into your keto lifestyle is with healthy keto fat bombs.
Chocolate butter is a keto friendly butter recipe mixed with decadent chocolate that checks off two important high fat diet musts. It’s a basic recipe that will help you increase fat intake on keto, while also crushing through sweet cravings that keep some keto dieters stuck. This sweet treat helps with weight loss on a high fat diet by helping you with the high fat part 😉
Ever wondered how to boost metabolism on keto? Healthy fat bombs are the perfect way to let your body know it’s safe so it will let go of stored body fat. (Kind of the entire point of a keto diet, by the way).
Unlike you read in mainstream health news, my favorite combination of healthy fats are made up of the saturated fats our brains need to thrive. These include good fats like coconut oil and grass-fed butter. These are my favorite keto fat sources I use to help our Keto Challengers get BIG results during our quarterly live 21 Day Keto Challenge.
Many of the rules I provide Keto Challengers are different than you’ll learn from other popular keto resources. Since our Keto Challengers lose up to 25 pounds in only 21 days, and many challengers break through longstanding weight loss stalls, I’d say sometimes different is better.
So let’s get to how to make this dark chocolate keto friendly recipe! Plus, I’ll touch even more on the reasons why these chocolate keto fat bombs are a great recipe to crush through sugar cravings while also boosting fat loss results on keto.
Before you get started, measure out the heavy cream and set aside. The heavy cream needs to be at room temperature when it mixes with the warmed dark chocolate. This step is important so the chocolate mixture doesn’t curdle when you stir in the heavy cream.
Melt the dark chocolate and butter together over medium-low heat. Be sure to keep an eye on this as it melts so you don’t burn the chocolate. I’ve tried to multitask while melting chocolate in the past and failed miserably. Let’s just say burnt chocolate fats bombs don’t curb my sweet tooth cravings in quite the same way.
I like to use a high quality dark chocolate, like Lindt 90% Dark or Endangered Species. I melt this down instead of using unsweetened cocoa powder since I no longer use keto-friendly sweetener in my keto desserts. I also avoid sugar free chocolate chips since they also use the sweeteners I try to avoid.
When I first began a keto lifestyle, I typically used cacao powder mixed with stevia drops and I did lose weight. While you can still lose weight with sweetened low carb recipes, I removed most sweeteners since they can lead to cravings for sweets on a low-carb diet. Adding too much low carb sweetener also isn’t great when it comes to long term weight loss.
If you want to use sweeteners in this keto fat bomb recipe because you’re still accustomed to very sweet treats, check out my free Keto Sweetener Guide.. I dive into the best keto sweeteners, like liquid stevia and monk fruit sweetener. I also talk about which to avoid in this fat bombs recipe, like sweeteners made with sugar alcohols or maple syrup.
We teach our Keto Decoded members to wean themselves off of artificial sweeteners overtime.
There are far too many people focussed only on grams of net carbs or worried about eating too much fat. There’s not enough people worrying about eating mostly real food who also count total carbs instead of cheating with net carbs 🧐
Small amounts of sweeteners here and there are perfectly fine, but overdoing the sweet stuff on a low carb diet can keep you stuck!
Keto sweetener rants aside, let’s get back to this tasty keto snack recipe.
Once the chocolate mixture is melted, set aside to allow it to cool. Remember – allowing the mixture to cool is very important when making this recipe to avoid a weird curdly mess. When the chocolate butter mixture is near room temp, whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Combine well.
Add the mixture into the lined cupcake tins in 1 tablespoon increments. Place the tray in the freezer until firm. This should take approximately 20-30 minutes. Once firm, store the chocolate butter in an airtight container or Ziploc bag in the fridge or freezer.
