Creamy Garlic Beef Ingredients
The ingredients for this garlic ground beef recipe are simple. All you need is a pound of ground beef, a small onion, and seasonings like black pepper, salt and parsley for the meat mixture. For the creamy garlic sauce you’ll need heavy cream, butter, and minced garlic.
While the ingredient checklist is pretty standard, do your best to use the highest quality of ingredients possible.
The entire point of keto is to lower inflammation. If you stick with any old ground meat that’s on sale, it’s true you get a lower price. It’s also true you get all of the toxins that come along with conventional meat. So what’s the overall cost to your health in this scenario?
If you have trouble sourcing grass-fed beef near you, check out Butcher Box. They deliver organic, grass-fed meats right to your doorstep. The convenience and quality are amazing.
The same thing goes for the butter and heavy cream. You’ll get far more nutrients from grass-fed butter. Organic cream also provides less hormones than the conventional kind. Plus, it’s guaranteed to be antibiotic-free. Who needs extra antibiotics fed to cows that will only damage your gut microbiome and make weight loss even harder?
Whatever you do – please don’t replace butter with a butter-like spread. I can all but guarantee Fabio’s long golden tresses and large muscles didn’t come from a product that’s organic makeup is closer to that of the plastic tub it’s stored in than anything considered edible. When he screams he can’t believe it’s not butter – you believe him! Because it’s not even close to butter.
How to Make Creamy Garlic Beef
So let’s say you want to make this garlic ground beef recipe for dinner tonight. Now that we talked all about the ingredient list, let’s get to the how-to part of this easy skillet dinner.
Let’s start by simmering the sauce since this part can take up to 20 minutes. If this is your first time making this recipe and you get flustered easily, you may need to cook only one part of this meal at a time. Once you get it down, then next time you can cook the beef while the sauce simmers. If you’re able to multitask, then brown the beef while stirring the sauce.
Simmer the Creamy Garlic Sauce
First thing, melt the butter in a saucepan over low to medium heat. Then add the minced garlic to the melted butter. Allow it to cook until the garlic lightly browns. This will give the sauce a great flavor.
Depending on how garlicky you like your meals, add up to a full tablespoon of garlic to the sauce. Vampires beware – this is nearly 3 full cloves garlic. If you don’t plan to fight off vampires, you may want to add less.
Stir with a wooden spoon to make sure the garlic doesn’t burn. This should take 2-3 minutes.
Next, pour in the heavy cream. Add 1/2 cup increments of the heavy cream at a time. Give the cream a few minutes to thicken before you add more into the saucepan. Stir frequently with a whisk.
Follow this process until all of the heavy cream is added into the saucepan. This typically takes 10-20 minutes for the entire recipe.
You may not use all of the sauce for this creamy garlic beef recipe. I like to make a big batch since we use the extra sauce for keto leftovers throughout the week. This heats up nicely on the stove and goes well with most leftover meats. My husband also loves to pour this sauce over eggs.
If you don’t want leftover sauce, you can cut the sauce ingredients in half.
Brown the Ground Beef
While the sauce thickens, you can brown one pound ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While following a keto diet, it’s best to choose a meat that’s at least 80% lean so you get more healthy fat with your meal. More on that in a minute.
If you didn’t already dice the onion, do that now. Then add it into the skillet while the ground beef browns. Once the beef is almost fully browned, season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle on some red pepper flakes if you want to give this meal a little kick.
Combine the Beef and Sauce
Once the beef is browned and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, add the beef mixture into a small bowl. Top it with the sauce. Garnish the meal with dried parsley.
Green onions also make a great addition to this meal, so sprinkle some on if you have green onions that are diced.
Just like that, you have a new recipe to add to your simple ground beef recipes list. You can serve this as an all-in-one meal or layer creamy garlic beef over cauliflower rice. This beef combo also tastes great with spaghetti squash with garlic and a splash of olive oil.
A Word on Digestion
Before we wrap up this creamy garlic beef blog, I wanted to get back to the reason it’s important to skip lean ground beef in favor of a higher fat meat. The same thing is true if you plan to swap ground turkey for ground beef.
Part of following a high fat ketogenic diet is eating more healthy fats. If you skimp on the natural fats found in beef in favor of a leaner meat option, then you’re negating the part about eating enough fat on a high fat diet.
While it’s true you can overdo fat on a keto diet, that likely won’t come in the form of the natural fats found in meat. Unlike the calories in vs. calories out mindset we’ve all been taught for decades, it’s important to eat enough fat to get into ketosis.
I understand there’s a whole keto culture out there telling you to eat a low fat keto diet. While that may work for some, if you’ve been on any kind of yo-yo diet throughout your life, you likely need to eat more in order for your body to feel safe enough to let go of stored body fat. In the case of a keto diet, eating more means eating more fat.
If you have a natural preference to leaner meats, this often comes down to a digestion problem. You won’t succeed on keto long term if you don’t take the steps to improve digestion.
