Living My Passion By Helping Others:
If you have read any of my previous blogs or watched any of my videos, hopefully you have witnessed my passion for helping others improve chronic health conditions, while leaving behind diet mentality and taking excess weight off for good. I have always been passionate about health and weight loss because I have always struggled with health and weight loss….ever since I was a little girl. Except I was never really that little.
While I do share a lot of personal information through my blogs, often too personal, I still have more to share. I spend the majority of my day with my two best friends, a two and four year old. While all I want to do is geek out on health related topics, my two besties only want to learn what Mr. Grouper has to teach. This is why I am so thankful to have connected with so many wonderful people through my Eating Fat is the New Skinny website, Facebook page and group.
So now that we can settle down for some adult conversation together, I am going to change pace with my blog topic this time around. Instead of teaching new health related information, I wanted to talk about myself as the student. Somewhere in between changing diapers and serving collagen laced juice, I was able to follow my lifelong passion of helping others with weight loss and poor health, while also adding four new income streams to contribute to my family.
How Eating Fat is the New Skinny Began:
Let me take you back to the summer of 2017, my first summer in Arizona. There I was with two small kids watching yet another episode of Bubble Guppies. Not only did I suffer through episode after episode on loop, but those songs….those dang cheerful songs get stuck in my head. I walk around the house humming, “Long, long, long time agoooooo.” I wake up in the middle of the night to roll over and in my head I hear, “I wanna be at a restaurant. I wanna go down to a restaurant.” I even have a special diaper changing song that I changed the words to: “I’m gonna check your pee, check your poo, find out how much you goooo.”
I’m not going to finish that one as it gets pretty embarrassing. Plus, that song isn’t even Bubble Guppies; it’s Doc McStuffins, yet another cartoon my kids watch on repeat. Something had to change before I was held on a 5150 because I could not handle one more cartoon song. I also apologize if you too are forced into hours of Bubble Guppies and those songs are now stuck in your head.
Starting Over. Again.
While we are flashing back, let’s go all the way back to 2014. I just had my first baby and I was in the worst health of my life. I truly dreaded the thought of another diet after twenty years of diet struggle, but weighing 235 pounds couldn’t possibly be a healthy weight for a new mom.
And what about the migraines I had been dealing with for almost just as long as my weight issues? They were commonly so bad that I sometimes had to lay down in a dark room for two days straight with no noise. How could I possibly deal with migraines and a new baby at the same time? Plus I had zero energy, which was zapped long before pregnancy. Then there is gestational diabetes. My doctor told me it was inevitable that I would wind up with type II diabetes; but he said it would take ten years to happen. It had only been six months and my fasting blood sugar was still between 130-140. I had diabetic fasting blood sugars only six months after pregnancy.
I was trying so hard. I was so good: I counted calories; I resisted junk food; I still felt hungry and shaky all the while. In the past these were definite signs I was losing weight. I woke up early every single day before the sun hoping to beat my baby just to fit in a cardio workout. I pedaled as hard as I could for as long as I could on my elliptical. Most days I got in an hour long session, yet the scale kept bouncing back and forth between the same five pounds.
Why couldn’t I get the weight off? Why didn’t the few pounds I lost stay off? The small weekly cheat I afforded myself, typically an Italian beef sandwich and fries, couldn’t have been the reason, could it? I needed a break from all of the restriction every once in awhile.
Getting Real Answers:
Then my life changed forever. I accidentally came across a book called Kick Your Fat in the Nuts. The information in the book was so much different than what I studied the prior twenty years. I soaked up every ounce of information from that book. I also took the 12 Week Online Fat Loss Course and listened to the Kick It Naturally podcast, most episodes more than once.
The scale finally budged and one year later I made it to my weight loss goal. After twenty years of absorbing everything I could about diet and exercise, I found out most of that information was wrong, or at the very least, wrong for my body and wrong for my specific chemistry. I finally figured out the key to losing weight and keeping it off forever. Also, my health problems drastically improved. My thriving health just kind of fell into place for the first time in my life.
When I first heard about the Health Pro Course, I was all in! Sure, I already made it to my goal, but I wanted to know even more. This information helped me succeed beyond my expectations, so I wanted to learn as much as I could to help my friends and family succeed as well. I also wanted a discount on supplements since both my husband and myself were finding great success with the recommended digestive supplements.
When the Health Pro Course first came out, I did what I could during baby nap time. The information was so powerful and interesting that I actually worked through the course faster than it was being put together. The more I learned about helping others improve their health issues via natural means, the more I wanted to know. I finished the course in record time and I was ready to help everyone I could!
Then life happened. Baby number two came. Life with a baby and a toddler was far more demanding than I expected. Also, I had an entire new round of baby weight to deal with. Oh, and did I mention my husband took a job 1700 miles away, so I also had to pack up our house, while dealing with a baby, a toddler and new baby weight? I conceded the Health Pro Course was still worth it because I now had life changing information to optimize my health forever. I also had the ability to help family and friends, while receiving a big discount on supplements, which over time more than made up for the price of the course.
Living My Passion:
Fast forward back to summer 2017. I live in Arizona. I quickly found out no one leaves their house during the summer in Arizona, as they fear they could melt. See you next fall, mom friends. I resigned myself to mornings with Bubble Guppies on loop. I got to the point where if i had to hear big headed fishes sing about going outside one more time, I was going to stab myself in the ears with my son’s veggie sticks. Yes I am dramatic. I now see where my four year old inherited that trait.
Then I remembered my favorite health podcastor released a marketing course a few months prior. I wasn’t ready to take it with a new baby and pending move across the country, but now was my time. And that, my friends, is how Eating Fat is the New Skinny was born. I guess you can thank Mr. Grouper. Or Doc McStuffins. Or Mickey Mouse. Especially Mickey Mouse. Yes, my kids live for a good Disney cartoon.
Once again, I devoured the course information as quickly as I could. When first learning about some of the steps to become a serious health pro, I won’t lie – some of the steps seemed complicated for a stay at home mom trying this out in her spare time. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I just took it one step at a time. It was truly unbelievable what I was able to accomplish in just a small amount of time, especially since I was working on these steps mostly while trying to tune out the morning madness that fighting toddlers can provide.
The Course that Changed the Course of My Life:
Now that I had the knowledge to help others, I needed to figure out how to find these people that needed my help. Here are some of the awesome things that happened in my first two months of taking the Health Pro Marketing Course:
- When I took the Health Pro Course in 2015, I started my Facebook Page: Nissa the Health Coach. I averaged around 1 blog per month and had around 125 followers.
- After I got serious about wanting to help others change their life, I updated the name of my page to Eating Fat is the New Skinny.
- After taking the Health Pro Marketing Course, I learned how to build a website with step by step tutorials. I had my new website eatingfatisthenewskinny.com live in under a week. This was at the end of July 2017.
- With the Health Pro Marketing Course, I learned how to create effective content and establish a following.
- On August 14, 2017 my website crashed because my new blog had too much traffic (more than 10,000 views in less than two days)
- My Facebook page following increased from 125 followers to now nearly 5,000 followers.
- I run a successful Facebook Support Group with more than 1,600 members.
- I went from zero clients to more than 14 paying clients in the first two months, which added up to more than $1,000.
- My website went from brand new to more than 26,000 original views in two months, and continues to climb by at least 10,000 views each month. I have been able to add affiliate links to products I use for even more additional income.
- Beyond coaching, I was also able to offer my clients and followers two additional services: The 12 Week Online Fat Loss Course and digestive supplements from Natural Reference. Not only are these services adding income streams to my coaching services, but I also feel I am helping clients with the best health information available to set them up for long term success. This is the same information that helped me lose and keep off more than 100 pounds, while escaping diet mentality forever.
- I earned more than $500 by promoting the 12 Week Online Fat Loss Course and more than $650 in supplement sales in the first two months.
While earning more than $2,000 in under two months through something I view as a hobby in my spare stay-at-home mom time is wonderful, I am so excited about the health benefits everyone I reach is receiving. Improving my chronic health conditions and taking off the weight I struggled with for more than twenty years is probably one of the best feelings in the world. Knowing I am helping so many members of my family, friends, friends of friends and even complete strangers improve their health as well tops that feeling tenfold.
With that, I want to thank you for reading this blog and keeping up with all of the information I have to offer with Eating Fat is the New Skinny. I look forward to us continuing to spend our health journey together for many years to come. If your newfound energy, optimal health and zest for life has inspired you to help others too, please reach out to me. I am more than happy to help you follow your passion as I continue to follow mine.
