One of our friends sent me this product and asked me how it fits into her high fat, low-carb lifestyle. It is part of a cleanse from a very popular health food company. Let me just say it sparked my interest.

Let’s check out a few of the ingredients:

Maltodextrin – Google tells me maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate because of it’s low-sugar content, but it has has a glycemic index of 130, much higher than actual table sugar with a glycemic index of only 65! A high glycemic index means that it goes through the digestive system and into the bloodstream very quickly. High GI foods lead to insulin spikes, which lead to weight gain. Natural and Artificial Flavors – most of us know artificial anything just is not good for you. What about the natural flavors? Well, that could mean pretty much almost anything. Thanks FDA! Check out this list of some natural flavors that can be hiding in the foods you eat:

Sucralose – Dr. Mercola explains sucralose is a chlorinated artificial sweetener in line with aspartame and saccharin, and has detrimental health effects to match. Check out this article below with all of the health detriments sucralose can provide:

Just to reiterate, this is a HEALTH drink designed to cleanse. If this is healthy, what is junk? Just another reason to stick with real food! No one likes dessert with a side of beaver anal glands, after all.
