Crunchy snacks on a keto diet are hard to come by. Most snack foods with a low carb count are either cheese crisps of some sort, or a boring nut mixture. Don’t get me wrong – nuts and cheese have their place in ketogenic diets, but what’s a girl to do when you’re craving salty snacks that are also sweet?
This cinnamon butter keto friendly trail mix recipe is the perfect snack to stop both crunchy and sweet cravings in their tracks on a low carb diet.
With only 4 grams of net carbs per serving, plus plenty of healthy fats, be sure to add this keto trail mix recipe into your meal plan rotation.

Keto Trail Mix Recipe Ingredients
This DIY keto trail mix is one of my favorite keto recipes since it’s an easy snack that you’ll crave. Add this sweet keto trail mix to your 5 ingredient keto recipes list since that’s all you need to complete the recipe. The basic ingredients include almonds, walnuts, dried strawberries, butter, and ground cinnamon.
Is Dried Fruit OK In A Keto Snack Mix?
I already know what you’re thinking – dried strawberries in a healthy trail mix recipe? Is dried fruit even a good idea on a keto diet?
If weight lossΒ is your goal with a low-carb diet, most of the time my answer would be no, do not eat dried fruit. When fruit is dried out, it contains too much natural sugar to fit into a keto plan. With this easy keto recipe, you’re using such a small amount of dried strawberries that most people can get away with this sweet addition.
The important thing to note here is to keep your serving size of dried fruit small, and to always combine it with some fat and protein to slow down the blood sugar spike. This great keto recipe has both healthy fats and protein to do just that.
The best way to lose weight on a keto diet is to stick with the foods that work best for you. If you’re not comfortable using the small amount of added sugar that comes with dried fruit in this keto trail mix recipe, leave this ingredient out.
Feel free to add dark chocolate chips instead to add a little bit of sweetness to this recipe. Alternatively, make this your own trail mix recipe by keeping all sweetened foods out entirely. Add your own favorite keto-friendly ingredients to make up the perfect salty trail mix. You’ll still have a touch of sweetness from the butter and ground cinnamon.
Best Keto Nuts for Keto Trail Mix
When it comes to the perfect sweet and salty keto trail mix, almonds and walnuts are great additions. When most people pick up a package of nuts at the grocery store, their first instinct is to look at the grams of carbs on the label. While this is important when it comes to finding a healthy snack, that’s not the only thing you should look for when purchasing low-carb foods.
The search for keto friendly nuts for this low carb trail mix recipe should also take into account other ingredients used. When seeking out keto snacks, you want to make sure highly processed vegetable oils were not used while processing the nuts.
Raw nuts make great options in trail mixes. You can even use roasted nuts, as long as they weren’t roasted in inflammatory vegetable oils, like canola or soybean. A lot of nuts you’ll find at the grocery store are covered in these oils that some say are even more inflammatory than sugar!
How to Make Keto Trail Mix
The first step is to preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Next line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the almonds and walnuts on top. Bake for 5 minutes, or until the nuts are slightly toasted. Then remove the nuts from the oven and set aside to allow them to cool.
Next, reset the oven temperature to 225 degrees F. As the oven and nuts cool, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low-medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the ground cinnamon. Stir with a whisk to combine well. Set aside to cool slightly.
Once the nuts and butter are cool, pour the toasted nuts into a large mixing bowl. Pour the cinnamon butter over the nut mixture. Toss the mixture until it’s well coated in the cinnamon butter.
After the keto trail mix is well coated, spread it evenly onto the lined baking sheet. Add the trail mix to the bottom shelf of the oven so it doesn’t burn.
Bake for 45 minutes, while occasionally stirring the trail mix.Β Then remove from the oven and allow the keto trail mix to cool.
Once the nuts have cooled, pour the nut mixture into a large mixing bowl. Add the dried strawberries on top. Use a spoon to stir the cinnamon butter keto trail mix together.
Once all of the ingredients are well combined, store the keto trail mix in an airtight container at room temperature.
