Many view keto as a restrictive diet. With so many easy keto recipes made from simple ingredients, keto is the best way to lose weight. Sure you have to cut out most junk food while following a low carb plan, but I wouldn’t call that restriction. I’d say a ketogenic diet is just common sense – improve your health by eating real food.

Name the last diet you tried where you get to eat juicy steak until you feel satisfied, and still lose weight. Take this keto steak recipe as an example. Mediterranean steak strips have a ton of flavor, but are low in net carbs. These steak strips are a filling meal with enough protein and fat to help you lose weight with keto!

Enough of me selling the benefits of a keto diet. Let’s chat about how to make these delicious steak strips so you have another easy recipe to add to your keto meal plan.

Before we do that, I wanted to let you know this blog contains affiliate links where I may receive a small commission if you click through. I also link to the same resources that helped me lose 100 pounds with a low-carb diet. Click through those so the info can help you too!

5 tips on losing 100 pounds with keto guide

Mediterranean Steak Strip Ingredients

You only need a handful of ingredients to complete this recipe, including the steak, plus the ingredients to make up the steak marinade.

First, choose your perfect steak. You can pick any type of steak you prefer for this easy keto dinner.

A few good cuts include sirloin steak, flank steak, rib eye, or even NY strip steak. Sure you may be saving some of the fancier cuts for a special occasion, but if that’s what you have in the freezer – they all work for this recipe. I’ve used every one of these cuts to make this delicious steak dinner.

Grass-Fed Beef is Best

While the cut of steak you choose is up to you, it’s best to use grass-fed beef whenever possible on a keto diet. Conventionally raised animals store toxins in their fat. When you eat a juicy keto ribeye with a lot of fat, those toxins are passed on to you.

If it’s hard to source high quality meats locally, check out Butcher Box. They deliver grass-fed, organic meats to your doorstep each month.

The wet ingredients that make up the marinade include coconut aminos and Worcestershire sauce. If you don’t use Worcestershire sauce in recipes, you can double up on the coconut aminos instead.

Balsamic vinegar also makes a great substitute if you want to mix up the flavor in this marinade. Soy sauce is another common replacement suggestion, but I’d skip this one due to its estrogenic effects.

Don’t fret that Worcestershire sauce isn’t keto friendly – it’s perfectly fine to use. Some people (including yours truly) have sensitivities to some of the ingredients in this sauce – so I wanted to list all of the options.

Rounding out this recipe are the spices used in the marinade. These include a mix of minced garlic, dried basil flakes, oregano and black pepper. Feel free to mix these up to make this recipe your own.

I apparently love to slay vampires, so I usually add more garlic. If you want to give this great recipe a little kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes into the marinade. Just remember – a little goes a long way.

How to Make Mediterranean Steak Strips

Let’s start with the marinade.

First add the dry ingredients into a large resealable Ziploc bag. Then pour in the wet ingredients and give it a good shake to mix the ingredients together. Set the marinade aside.

Next, cut the steak into 1 inch thick strips. If you prefer steak bites, you can chop the steak up into smaller cubes. Once the steak is sliced, add it into the Ziploc bag and close. Shake gently in order to completely coat the steak with the marinade.

Allow the steak to marinade in the fridge for at least 4 hours. You can meal prep the steak up to 24 hours in advance if you prefer a more tender meat.

Remove the steak from the fridge approximately 30 minutes before you’re ready to cook to allow it to come to room temperature. (This part is optional, so if you forget and you’re in a hurry – just go right to the next step).

Let’s Get Sizzling

Once you’re ready to cook the steak, heat a large skillet or cast iron skillet on the stove top over medium-high heat. Make sure the pan is very hot before adding the steak. You want your meat to sizzle when you add it to the hot pan.

If you choose a steak that isn’t high in fat, add a thin layer of coconut oil before heating up the pan. This will help the steak sizzle and keep it from sticking to your pan.

Remove the steak strips from the bag with tongs. Add the steak strips to the pan and cook until the steak forms a brown crust on the outside.

The cooking time is usually 3-4 minutes per side, depending on how hot the pan is. This is the length of time it takes for the steak strips to come to a medium temperature in the middle. You can cook longer if you prefer steak strips that are more well done.

To determine when steak strips are done, I usually remove one piece of steak and cut into the center. You can also utilize a meat thermometer to determine when it’s time to remove your pieces of steak from the hot skillet. Once they’re cooked to your preference, remove the steak from the hot pan and serve.
